College of San Mateo [2000-2009]
Because of my prior corporate training experience at Learn iT!, after I earned my degree I was invited back to teach a Flash Class at the College. I had over 60 students the first semester I taught there in the Fall of 2000, so the following Spring they opened a second section of their beginning Flash Class. That same semester I also submitted a proposal to offer a beginning scripting class, an advanced section the students could take.
Until the Spring of 2003 I taught just under full time at the College. That year the State of California had so many financial woes that almost all part time teachers at all Community Colleges were laid off. I was able to keep one class.
I still teach periodically (every couple of semesters) a night section of the advanced flash class. This is basically beginning programming for designers, where I teach them ActionScript basics.
Typically I wrote all of my own courseware exclusively, using a couple of texts for support. This semester as I change the course from ActionScript 2 to ActionScript 3 I’m using the book Learning ActionScript 3 by Rich Schupe, however I’m writing extensive posts on each chapter I’ve been teaching.
