Orange Design [2005-2006]
Working with a Flash 5 based game engine designed specifically to work on the Leapfrog Leapster hardware (a portable educational game system), I successfully created games for 4-9 year old’s on three titles:
If you are interested in seeing these games, I’d be happy to bring along my Leapster to show you.
Aside from having to use older less robust programming methods, these devices had very limited memory and underpowered processors. So development on this platform could be tricky at times, cleaning up code and garbage collection was a must.
We were always trying to find optimized ways of doing anything. I successfully created methods to create random exhaustive arrays that wouldn’t impact the processor or memory limitations parsing problem sets from XML.
I also created activities that would teach and evaluate letter writing skills, tracking the stylus interaction on the screen. I worked in a team environment (4 programmers) here using a SourceSafe code repository.
