Expedia grows fan base from 50k  to 1 Million fans in 6 weeks!

The Expedia project was a major undertaking. It was basically 3 projects wrapped up into one big one. There was a major contest, daily contests, friend invitations with customized invites, leader-board, team representations, and a plane customizer. I worked on the flash assets for this project which included

  • profile picture customizer for the friend invitations
  • 3 different plane (team) representations for different areas of the project, some of which had editing capabilities
  • a plane customizer for participants who were successful in getting their friends to join a trip
There was a lot of Javascript interaction between the flash pieces and the application, along with some fb graph calls to retrieve user photos, and we created a custom photo uploader to store all the custom photos for posting on the user’s wall. In one of the team view’s we had a nudge function that allowed the team leader to nudge a member who had not accept the trip, publishing again to the user’s wall.
The project was a huge success, and Context Optional worked with Efficient Frontier to help Expedia reach 1 million fans (starting at just over 50,000) within a 6 week period. This was a huge success for all 3 companies, which was followed shortly by Efficient Frontier Purchasing Context Optional in May 2011
